When we are looking for a moment to re balance, reset, and relax, we are big fans of CBD. Its many benefits to both skin, mental and overall health make it an obvious choice to add to our menu. We’re excited to educate you about the wonderful ingredient in our new CBD Facial & Body therapies.

CBD is quickly becoming one of the fastest growing markets in the country. With the studies that have been done showing promising benefits in treating various medical conditions it’s no surprise. Everywhere you turn nowadays, CBD seems to be a topic of conversation but if you listen there also seems to be a lot of conflicting information.

What is CBD Oil?

CBD is one of many cannabinoids (compounds) in the cannabis plant. Researchers have been looking at the possible therapeutic uses of CBD.

Two of the compounds in marijuana are delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and CBD. These compounds have different effects.

Until recently, THC was the best-known compound in cannabis. It is the most active constituent, and it has a psychological effect. It creates a mind-altering “high” when a person smokes it or uses it in cooking. This is because THC breaks down when a person applies heat and introduces it into the body.

CBD, in contrast, is not psychoactive. It does not change a person’s state of mind when they use it. However, it may produce significant changes in the body, and it is showing some significant medical benefits.

Benefits For Your Skin

Acne can be embarrassing to deal with and hard to treat. An overproduction of sebum and fatty oils called lipids is the main cause of spots and acne.  It is often triggered by stress or hormones.  A natural approach to treating acne is found in hemp oil and CBD, which restricts the production of lipids in the skin helping prevent outbreaks. CBD oil also has anti-bacterial qualities make it effective in getting rid of existing spots.

Vitamin A and D help with healthy looking skin because they are responsible for skin repair. A lack of these vitamins in a diet can result in dry, flaky skin. Additionally, vitamin A is widely accepted as important for skin cell growth, inhibiting oil production, and promoting skin cell differentiation.

B complex vitamins are part of the construction process of the skin.  Low levels of Vitamin B are associated with dermatitis and skin infections.  Additionally, low vitamin B is connected to hair loss, fatigue anemia, nausea, digestive issues, weakness, respiratory conditions, dementia, psychiatric conditions and blood disorders.

Vitamins C and E as antioxidants, protect against free radicals damaging collagen and elastin which helps give skin its tight youthful appearance.  They also fight against sun damage.

Hemp is rich in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids in the appropriate 1:3 ratio, omega-9 and gamma linoleic acid (GLA).  These essential fatty acids are anti-inflammatory and help regenerate the skin’s protective outer layer, leaving it smoother and younger looking. Those suffering from acne or dry skin could be lacking omega-3 fatty acids in their diet.

Among other medically enhancing properties, Chlorophyll is an anti-inflammatory and reduces bacterial growth.  It also functions as a natural deodorant.

What Was Old Is New Again

Using Hemp and CBD oils therapeutically is far from a new practice.  Vijaya, Sanskrit for Cannabis, is considered one of the 5 sacred plants in the Vedas.  The use of Hemp as a plant and oil are well documented in ancient Ayurvedic text such as Charaka, Sushruta and Shargandhara samhitas.  The Ananda Kanda has an entire chapter dedicated to Hemp, its toxicity, cultivation, preparation, procedure for purification and use.

Hemp has also been cultivated in China for thousands of years.  Its use in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is documented in the Yellow Emperor’s Classic of Internal Medicine.
