You may have heard of platelet-rich plasma therapy (PRP), but you may not actually know much about it. What is PRP used for? Who can be a candidate for PRP? What should you do if you\’re interested in PRP?
Platelet-rich plasma therapy is widely used for treating orthopedic injuries, arthritis and a myriad of other conditions. Platelet-rich plasma literally stimulates new cell growth in the patient’s body wherever it is injected. It helps the body heal itself the natural way without using chemicals or foreign substances of any kind. At Ayurbeauty is used primarily for two (2) purposes:
- Facial/Skin Rejuvenation – Fortunately PRP is now becoming the treatment of choice to improve the appearance of wrinkles, scars, and circles under the eyes. Platelet-rich plasma therapy is actually being referred to as the \”liquid\” facelift procedure.
- Hair Restoration – PRP is a successful treatment for restoring hair with very natural looking results.
Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy: What It Is
Many may be wondering what platelet-rich plasma is…
Platelets are a nutrient-component in the blood responsible for repairing tissue. When applied directly to soft tissues, these platelets release reparative, rejuvenating hormones in the area.
To create PRP, the patient\’s own blood is drawn and then separated into platelet-rich and platelet-poor components. The separation is done with a centrifuge and a test tube. The resulting platelet-rich plasma is then used to rejuvenate the face in the comfort of our office.
PRP and Facial Rejuvenation
To rejuvenate the face, the platelet-rich plasma is injected in a grid over the area of interest. This kick-starts the skin into a regenerative phase. The skin then attracts vascularity, deposits collagen and elastin, and takes on a more youthful character. It helps plump the skin to treat texture, fine lines, and volume
Women who have had the PRP facelift treatment find their faces look even better several months after the treatments. That’s because the plasma stimulates the skin’s stem cells to produce more collagen, grow new cells and literally rejuvenate the skin. The new cell growth in your skin generated by the PRP takes weeks to months, which is why it looks so much better after more time passes.
PRP and Dark Circles
There can be many causes of dark circles under the eyes. But for those that are more pigment-related, platelet-rich plasma is injected under the skin around the eyes. Over time, the plasma stimulates the skin and causes it to go into a regenerative phase. The plasma also scours skin pigments that create the circles and grows healthy skin to help remove the dark circles. For this purpose, one treatment is generally sufficient.
PRP and Hair Restoration
All across the country, PRP is being used more and more to awaken quiescent hair follicles and restore thinning hair. An application of PRP stimulates hair follicles to grow hair. It acts as an adjunct to hair replacement and thickens hair rather than growing it from a bald spot. This can be particularly effective along the eyebrows and scalp.
Am I Qualified for PRP Therapy?
PRP therapy is definitely not a difficult or demanding process which makes it a viable option for most people. However, there are a few conditions (e.g., thrombocytopenia) or circumstances (e.g., being on a blood thinner) which would be contraindications.
For hair restoration, PRP will not grow hair from a bald spot. It is only useful for regrowing thin areas.
Ayurbeauty offers platelet-rich plasma therapy for facial rejuvenation, skin rejuvenation, and hair restoration. Ayurbeauty also offers other skincare products for a variety of purposes.
