Marma, the life changing Ayurvedic therapy and the foods which support it

Marma means secret or essence in Sanskrit and in Ayurveda it pertains to those points in the body which are the meeting junctions of two or more types of tissues like ligaments, tendons, muscles and bones. The human body is said to have 107 Marma points that are the pressure centres that control the body vitality and are said to be a getaway to the 7 chakras that control the flow of energy. The 108th Marma point is said to be the soul. Before starting any marma therapy, a good marma doctor would usually place a little balm on the 108th point to invoke the prana inside you. These points maintain the delicate health balance and an injury or clouding of these points may cause anything from pain to life threatening conditions. In ancient times, Ayurvedic physicians, specially trained in Marma have been documented to have healed the wounded soldiers in war by aligning the Marma points with the use of massage and healing herbs.

The science of practicing Marma massage is thousands of years old and it aims to remove the doshas of the body, thus healing several of its ailments by realigning the points, the disturbance of which is said to be the root cause of diseases.

According to Sushruta Samhita, the ultimate gospel of ancient Indian medicine, the specific marma points in the body control the flow of prana in living beings.
